Day 8 (Mar. 29th) – 8.4 miles. Poplar Stamp Gap to Unicoi Gap. Sun out and temps up to 70, nice hiking most of day till last 3 miles – mountains and boulders galore. We are at the Budget Inn in Hiawassee and will stay here tomorrow for our first Zero day (no hiking, zero miles hiked).
If you want to see pics or video search for “Appalachian Trail Tales” on Facebook and YouTube.
True grit, if you can grin and bare it day after day. So far you are doing great. Our forefather pioneers would be proud of you as we are. Gettin er done.
Aunt Pat and Uncle Ed! So good to hear from you!! Thank you.
Enjoying your posts and the progress you are making!…..Hiawassee is one of the two town areas we are considering retiring to in about 3-4 years…..The other is Blue Ridge, Georgia…..I watch the weather every day in relation to where I think you are and pray for your courage, strength and safety on the trail……Hope you get a good recovering rest in town!
Hiawassee is beautiful, has a large lake throughout the town. Of course we are not seeing all of it as that would be too much walking! Do you know about the ATweather.org site? That’s what we’re using to check shelters. Thx for following us!
Jen, you and Greg are creating some wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing. I hope that your zero day revives you.
How are you and Greg feeling right now?
Helen and I admire you both.
Thanks so much Charles! We had a great night’s sleep and are waiting for Subway to open for coffee(!!!) and breakfast. We both are feeling rested already and have all day to rest additionally! ?
